Cancer Conversations Episode 33
Kentucky has the highest rate of new cancer cases and deaths in the nation, with the greatest burden of the disease being in the Appalachian region. High risk behaviors, poverty, low healthcare access and engagement, and other factors drive these high rates. This month on Cancer Conversations on Talking FACS, Dr. Nathan Vanderford shares about his second edition book The Cancer Crisis in Appalachia, a collection of essays written by students who have been personally affected by cancer and also live in the region. We visit with two of these students, Karlee Compton and Michael Buoncristiani, as they share about their experience participating in the ACTION program and writing for the book.
